We are big fans of Erdem’s kaleidoscopic prints and contemporary silhouettes, so when he approached us to design his dinner and party during fashion week we were thrilled.
I particularly love projects like this, it’s such an enjoyable collaborative process working with a talented designer , translating their aesthetic and chanelling it effectively into a dinner and party setting.
We decided to do a Tim Walkeresque Balloon moment with Jewel coloured balloons tumbling out of the windows of Mortons, twisting around the building and bursting from the balcony.

Thousands of Monochrome Marbled balloons snaked up the stairway. It reminds us of an Erdem print

For the dinner setting we raided Erdem’s studio ( kind of) We decided to utilise the Fabric that Erdem had designed exclusively for Matches and bring it to the table…. literally; we made ribbons from the fabric ,threaded bespoke engraved Brass discs to make the chicest napkin ring that then adorned the Wrists of the guests. We had balloons floating above each chair fastened with silk strips of the exclusive print.
Erdem’s fashion illustrations are beautiful , what nicer element to bring to the table than hand drawn girls from the spring/Summer collection carrying each Guest’s placement?
Hundreds of brightly coloured Dahlias and zinnia’s pranced down the centre of the table akin to a floral print come to life
Xavior played Lady Gaga on the babygrand . Afterwards everyone drank erdetini’s as the Sunday Girl, Tallulah Ormsby Gore and the Queen’s of Noise DJ’d . A wonderful whimsical party suitably celebrating a unique talent.
Lovely coverage on the Vogue website: ‘Erdem dines with Matches‘ article written by Dolly Jones and ‘5,000 Luftballoons‘ by Mark Holgate
Check out Erdem’s show on style.com some really delicious dresses on here…

On a recent whim. I threw out my bed. It just wasn’t working for me anymore. Instead of being more rational, finding an alternative and THEN getting rid. I decided to just do without until I find the perfect one. So now I am sleeping on my Tempur-Pedic mattress on the floor. A liberating experience that feels a little like camping. I am thinking of making my army green linen Merci sheets into a kind of tent/canopy to go overhead. Bedroom as set, it’s really the way forward.
Bed research has been extensive. I want a bed with character and personality, slightly traditional sturdy and long lasting (like the ideal man?) I am a slight bed-a-holic and love nothing more than spending copious amounts of time doing whatever grabs my fancy in the haven of my bedroom. I remember my glamorous platinum haired grandmother Mona constantly holding court in her bed like a queen on a throne while we, her minions scuttled around her making cups of tea, plumping pillows, doing magic tricks anything really all in the hope of being invited to join her in bed for a chat, an episode of Dallas. Everything was perfect in the hallowed ground of “Mona’s bed.”
Recreating my own bed nirvana, a few beds have caught my attention and some have had me delirious with laughter (fragrant fog machine anyone?). I have considered sleigh beds, four posters all the usuals but sleeping in a shell, how fun would that be? The four poster with Calcuttan screens overhead is my favourite so far. Made by the fabulous design couple Jamesplumb and seen when I went to visit the one room hotel at Hostem. This is a bed with character, provenance and is interesting without being too overbearing…I love it, I want it. In the meantime I am happy to consider any interesting bed suggestions.

A beautiful screen ceiling…Bed can be seen during The London Design Festival

Welcome to the Playhouse

Bed with remote control. Eject button?

The Valentine bed, love the all important “ceiling view” and “rear view” mirror. No Joke.

This is for real. A fog machine in bed now that would be something. A scented Fog machine? Got to be Old Spice…

Failing a shell how about a swan? I love this

When we were asked to come up with a creative concept for Louis Vuitton’s Vogue Fashion’s Night Out out we had recent memories of some photobooth fun…We love photo booths and especially have a fondness for well equipped ones with lot’s of props to distract from any blink in the spotlight shyness.
A dream commission then to make Louis Vuitton trunkfuls of headpieces and props for their Maison Stores in Paris and London to bring our concept to life. Inspired by the accessories in their recent shows, we made origami rabbit ears, giant layered paper bows, and then inspired by general fabulousness we created trailing mohicans, explosive shoulder pads and Daliesque paper moustaches…I was forced to stop at winged visors and eye patches (an origami restraining order was enforced.) We also made super-sized LV Vogue rosettes for the Booth Attendants to wear. All fashioned from the pages of Vogue. Our most Glamorous exercise in Fashion recycling yet…

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out despite my initial reservations (Does fashion ever stay in??) actually turned into a hilarious evening. Wednesday night became a City Carnival with drinks flowing, balloons popping and in our case spray cans spraying. When we were asked to do a little something for Harvey Nichols we immediately thought it would be fun to create a Fashion Haberdashery, with featured designers customizing Vogue FNO T-shirts and bags for charity. So that’s exactly what we did. The haberdashery reached fever pitch as Erdem graffiti’d, Markus Lupfer ruffled and sequinned, Marios Schwab eyeletted and Jonathan Saunders hombre sprayed…a very glamorous team of worker elves. Christopher Kane popped by and of course started creatively signing with a fistful of multi coloured fabric marker pens. We also set up a Vogue “More Dash than Cash” photoshoot where customers could be photographed in a studio setting wearing their newly customised items. All in all an interactive refreshingly fun night. Champagne and fabric spray paint, a heady combination.

Markus Lupfer

Erdem signing….

…and spraying. Loved the tie die effect .

Marios Schwab. Rivetting…

Jonathan Saunders. There’s something about a handsome man and a spray can that’s just irresistible…

Jade Parfitt from Vogue TV and a delirious Jonathan Saunders

The Lovely Ivan, Jonathan’s assistant. Another very handsome haberdasher.

Christopher Kane. Make and do !

The More Dash than Cash Photo shoot

Jonathan Saunders and a particularly fetching Emma O’ Byrne in one of his creations.

Sometimes you just have to put a Bag on it…
