We Love sweet things. We thought we were pretty sorted with our supplies of macaroons, cake-pops, cupcakes and whatever else landed on our sugar hungry lips. Then along comes Claire Clark, the ex pastry chef from the French Laundry (possibly the best pastry chef in the world) and does a collaboration with Harvey Nichols. An interpretation of traditional favourites…Battenbergs, Jaffa cakes, bubblegum Marshmallow Pavlova. Deep sigh, pass the insulin we are in heaven.
We designed the branding and a mini Patisserie in Harvey Nichols 5th floor to sell Claire’s delicious confections. We wanted to give a more modern interpretation of a pattiserie, a break from the multi layered cake stands and mismatched vintage china cups that are pretty much everywhere.

Inspiration came from the geometric, colourful form of the iconic battenburg cake.

We created the branding that would be used in all printed material from the logo to the monogram which was used as a light motif in the packaging

We decided to create a modern sleek contrast from which to display the nostalgic treats. Fluoro perspex for a jolt of modern, powder pink and yellow for a touch of battenberg and gold powdered Scaffolding to bind it all together in an industrial yet luxurious way.

The Claire Clark afternoon tea is sublime, the bubblegum Marshmallow Pavlova transported me to a place that is indescribable but is in my food memory bank filed under ecstasy. If you can’t make it to afternoon tea the pattiserie is open until mid November. I rarely say this BUT…The Jaffa cakes are even better than the real thing. The Battenberg slices, the toffee bark with salted pecans and the chocolate Covered honeycomb have made our world a more luxurious sugar coated place.

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out despite my initial reservations (Does fashion ever stay in??) actually turned into a hilarious evening. Wednesday night became a City Carnival with drinks flowing, balloons popping and in our case spray cans spraying. When we were asked to do a little something for Harvey Nichols we immediately thought it would be fun to create a Fashion Haberdashery, with featured designers customizing Vogue FNO T-shirts and bags for charity. So that’s exactly what we did. The haberdashery reached fever pitch as Erdem graffiti’d, Markus Lupfer ruffled and sequinned, Marios Schwab eyeletted and Jonathan Saunders hombre sprayed…a very glamorous team of worker elves. Christopher Kane popped by and of course started creatively signing with a fistful of multi coloured fabric marker pens. We also set up a Vogue “More Dash than Cash” photoshoot where customers could be photographed in a studio setting wearing their newly customised items. All in all an interactive refreshingly fun night. Champagne and fabric spray paint, a heady combination.

Markus Lupfer

Erdem signing….

…and spraying. Loved the tie die effect .

Marios Schwab. Rivetting…

Jonathan Saunders. There’s something about a handsome man and a spray can that’s just irresistible…

Jade Parfitt from Vogue TV and a delirious Jonathan Saunders

The Lovely Ivan, Jonathan’s assistant. Another very handsome haberdasher.

Christopher Kane. Make and do !

The More Dash than Cash Photo shoot

Jonathan Saunders and a particularly fetching Emma O’ Byrne in one of his creations.

Sometimes you just have to put a Bag on it…

Back with a bang to our favorite emporium, Harvey Nichols for the launch of the new Marc Jacobs fragrance for men the aptly named Bang. Inspired by the Juergen Teller advertising campaign for Bang and with mylar on our minds we decided to cover the walls with just that. Great DJ sets from Jesus Luz, Jake Shears and Seb Chew. Delicious Bang cocktails from the Fifth Floor bar. At this one we all had a lot of fun…
We transformed the Fifth Floor Restaurant wall with miles and miles of mylar.

Artfully pleating, folding and taping. It takes a lot of effort to make it look this effortless. Honestly.

We made a Dj booth out of all the Bang mini trays that are used for merchandising.
Love how this looked…
Love how it looked even more when Jesus Luz popped behind it. He played a brilliant set.
Cue much energetic dancing and arms in the air…finishing to Madonna’s “Celebrate”. Sweet…
Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters played after Jesus

Bang cocktails with Bang ice cubes. Double bang!

We love Lula Magazine, it is like opening the pages to another dreamy world. So we were delighted when we were asked to design and produce their 5th Birthday Dinner Party and a Pop Up Shop on the 4th Floor in Harvey Nichols (which is open for a month from today and on-line). It has lots of essential treats curated by Lula editor in chief, Leith Clark. I want the Lover white romper and a copy of Derek Blasberg’s “Classy “ for the weekend. Essential romping and reading.
Lots of photographs to follow but in the meantime here are some behind the scenes snaps. We installed the dinner and the shop on the same night so we need to catch up with some much needed beauty sleep…Fast.

Lot’s of balloons and lot’s of girls and this is what we call work.

Erdem – We like it when the guests take home the flowers and the placement. It’s worked it’s magic.

Emma Rios the hugely talented illustrator who painted the Pop Up in-situ.

Got to dash! Spinning class anyone?
