It might have been the helium, it might have been the thousands of silver heart shaped balloons…but this past Valentines was a lot of fun. Were we having romantic dinners or opening declarations of well written love poems? Er No we were installing the ELLE Style awards (a much more novel bypass for Valentines) which was a riot of silver with a touch of fluoro. We made intricate silver paper origami invitations, table centres and decorations. Walls and walls of balloons that reminded us of chain mail.
My favourite bit was the beds for the afterparty. We do like a pillow-fight…especially in a nice dress.
Elle Style Awards is always a wonderful event to work on. Thank you to team ELLE and Quintessentially Events.

Silver origami starburst table centres

A Pantone moment. There is something so beautiful about a shiny silver round

Balloon walls. Love a balloon & ballroom combination

Origami Hearts. A labour of Love

Fluoro roses. We all know I love fluoro. These fluoro roses in orange and pink are divine. Nu Rave Rose?

Origami paper chandelier

DJ hide. Made from folded wallpaper. MAJOR paper.

The ELLE Style Awards after party…And so to bed. We decided beds were a more Valentine friendly seating option

And then we decided we needed more fluoro…

…think how great a Christopher Kane fluoro pink dress would look on this?

…Or this.

Just a girl who wears her heart on her face….

We’ve developed a thing for playing with paper recently. It’s nice that something so practical and utilitarian can, when artfully crafted, pleated, folded and manipulated becomes something quite spectacularly sculptural. For the Pandora Press day in the Mandarin Oriental last week we decked the ballroom with thousands and thousands of paper flowers. We have yet to calculate how many hours went into creating these but it was many…many…hundreds. Paper worker elves mushroomed and multiplied in our studio, intricately folding and finessing over Frappucinos. Thank you to Anna and all our paper helpers who held the paper forte while some of us wafted around The Secret Garden Party and Port Eliot. When Vogue Blogs it. It’s worth it.
In a very glamorous act of paper recycling we are re-using each and every paper flower at Pandora’s next event in Monaco. Sure beats the recycling bin….

Paper artistry has been something we have been interested in for some time. There is something so intriguing about a material that can be so fragile but still so utilitarian. We have wanted to incorporate recycled paper into an event for ages, but it had to be the right event. When we were approached to design the
Elle Style Awards we immediately thought of the physicality of the magazine itself…lot’s of beautiful images on paper. What could be more delightful than using the pages of ELLE to create new beautiful forms. A very fashionable excercise in upcycling.
By using the actual physical magazine covers, shoots and articles we knew we had the means to add an authentic element of glamour and fashion. Bringing it back to the pages and the magazine but in a refreshing playful way. We decided to use the magazine in every aspect of the design from making delicate peacocks, moths and beetles as table adornments to a chandelier from thousands of covers to crazy montages that decorated the bars (and every conceivable surface). Paper dreams indeed.
